Germany’s second-largest bank,
Commerzbank, has signed up as a national supporter of the FIFA
Women’s World Cup. The finals take place in Germany in 2011.

The deal augments the bank’s existing
sponsorship agreement with Germany’s football association (DFB). As
a premium partner of the DFB, Commerzbank sponsors the men’s and
women’s national teams as well as youth development programmes.

Steffi Jones, chair of the 2011 organising
committee, said: “I know Commerzbank well from my time as a player.
The bank supported us at a time when many people had no interest in
women’s football. It has made a major contribution to the
development of our sport.”
