Malaysia-based investment bank CIMB Group has hired Mohamed Rafe bin Mohamed Haneef as new CEO and executive director of CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad as well as new CEO of Group Islamic Banking Division.

Haneef will assume his new roles on 4 January 2016.

Haneef has previously held key business and functional roles in three global banks, an international asset management company and a legal firm.

He has specialised in Islamic banking during the past 15 of his 20 year career and has worked in major financial markets including London, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.

CIMB Group group chief executive Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul Aziz said: "Rafe is a proven leader, with a deep and broad understanding of Islamic Banking, having been an Islamic Banker for the last 15 years and worked in multiple financial centres around the world.

"I look forward to working closely with him to put into motion the plans that will further cement CIMB Islamic’s leading position in the Islamic banking arena globally."
