Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) has joined forces with data and AI platform company Cloudera to enhance its AI “innovation” across the organisation.
BNI will utilise Cloudera’s open, hybrid data platform to optimise its AI supply chain, integrating data ingestion, governance, analytics, and machine learning (ML) into a unified system.
BNI is claimed to be one of the early adopters of Cloudera AI Inferencing, which is based on Nvidia NIM microservices.
This on-premises service allows for the secure deployment of open-source large language models (LLMs) on Nvidia accelerated computing, enabling BNI to scale generative AI while ensuring control over sensitive data.
Full deployment is anticipated by the end of this year, with BNI collaborating with Cloudera and Nvidia to ensure “performance, compliance, and resilience” throughout the process.
BNI stated that it has selected Cloudera due to its alignment with Indonesia’s regulatory requirements and support for enterprise-scale AI.

By GlobalDataCloudera’s unified data platform provides governance, security, and hybrid deployment options, ensuring compliance with the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia (BI) regulations while meeting BNI’s data sovereignty needs.
Its AI and ML capabilities, based on an open-source foundation, enable BNI to scale predictive analytics, fraud detection, and customer personalisation.
Cloudera Asia Pacific and Japan senior vice president Remus Lim said: “By adopting Cloudera’s AI Inference and unified data platform, BNI is leading the way in securely operationalising generative AI at scale.”
BNI is already utilising ML in several areas, while inference integration is currently underway.
It employs product recommendation systems to suggest banking products tailored to customer history.
In supply chain analytics, BNI optimises material flows and vendor networks to enhance efficiency and mitigate operational risks.
The bank also implements real-time monitoring and machine learning models to detect and manage suspicious online gambling activities, collaborating with various national agencies to support anti-gambling initiatives.
Additionally, BNI has developed a chatbot that provides relationship managers with AI-generated responses to customer inquiries.
The bank also uses churn prediction techniques to identify customers at risk of leaving and engages them proactively to improve retention.
BNI chief information officer Toto Prasetio said: “We are proud to be among the first financial institutions adopting Cloudera’s AI Inference service.
“This technology gives us the infrastructure to scale our generative AI ambitions securely and efficiently, while staying compliant with Indonesia’s evolving regulatory landscape.”
In December 2024, the Bank of Georgia partnered with Cloudera to centralise multiple data sources, enabling personalised customer experiences and driving innovation through effective data utilisation.
