Barclays has added a new feature to its app that allows customers to make payments from current accounts held with other banks.
It has now become the first UK high street bank to debut this service.
The newly added feature uses API technology, which is powered by Open Banking.
The Barclays app already allows users to view current, savings and credit card accounts held with other UK banks.
Barclays open banking director Caroline Ambrose said: “Day-to-day life is busy enough without juggling multiple banking apps to stay on top of your finances.
“That’s why we’re working to make our customers’ lives easier by putting everything in one place and adding features that help them manage their money in a secure and straightforward way.

Initially, customers who linked their current accounts held with NatWest and Nationwide will be able to use the new feature.
The app will soon be rolled out for other providers including Santander, Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland.
To use the new feature, customers will first need to link the accounts they hold with another bank into their Barclays app.
Once the account is linked, customers can check their balance and transactions, and securely make payments from the account.
Barclays said in a release that in the coming weeks they will be adding more functions to the app to enable quicker payments.
The app will also allow customers to save new payment contacts without needing to re-enter the details.
Last year in May, Barclays launched an in-app account opening with new fraud warnings as digital interactions continue to increase globally.
The Barclays app has a range of different budgeting tools that helps customers stay in control of their spending as well.
