Moultrie-based Ameris Bank is set to acquire 18 branches of Bank of America (BofA) in southern Georgia and northern Florida, including those in Albany.

Ameris will acquire three Albany branches of BofA, which include locations at 2630 Dawson Road, 2111 E. Ogelthorpe Blvd, and a drive-thru facility at 1110 Dawson Road.

Apart from these three branches, Ameris will also acquire BofA banking centers in Dublin, Fitzgerald, Hinesville, Moultrie, Thomasville, Tifton and Waycross in Georgia.

In Florida, Ameris will acquire BofA banking centers in Blounstown, Cross City, Defuniak Springs, High Springs, Jasper, Lake City and Live Oak.

According to Matthew Daily, the move forms part of the company’s re-evaluation of its retail structure as more customers embrace online banking.

Daily added that the decision to sell the locations instead of shutting them down was made to mitigate impact on jobs as well as on retail customers whose deposit accounts would be affected.
