Akbank has introduced a payments-enabled
mobile phone app with which the bank’s customers can remitt money
to accounts, credit cards and Akbank ATMs.
The service is, simply, called Send Money and
is promised to take just 20 seconds for funds of up to TRY1,000
($625.50) per day to be transferred. Akbank has also put a monthly
cap of TRY4,000 for transactions.
Akbank’s
deputy CEO and chief retail banking executive Hakan Binbasgil,
was confident that the app would “transform money transfer habits
of customers”.
Akbank’s m-payment app supports Turkey’s big
mobile phone networks Turkcell, Vodafone and Avea and is compatible
with the iPhone, BlackBerry and the Android operating systems.
The service will soon be extended to Nokia’s
Symbian operating system and be available for download via text
message.
Money can be remitted to anybody, the bank
said, including to card holders of other banks and both parties
will receive notifications during the remittance process.
