The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.39% in September 2021 when compared with August 2021.
Out of the banking and payments industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 14.16% share in September 2021, recording a decrease of 0.58% over the last three-month average share.

By GlobalData1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 60.37% in September 2021, registering an 11.95% decline over the previous month.
2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 17.24% share, a decrease of 13.33% over the previous month.
3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 10.45%, registering a 5.63% decline from August 2021.
4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 8.42%, down 24.48% over the previous month.
Top five banking and payments companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 14.05% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s banking and payments industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
The Bank of Nova Scotia posted 325 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 12.07% over the previous month, followed by Royal Bank of Canada with 191 jobs and a 36.75% drop. Citigroup with 118 IT jobs and Desjardins Group with 77 jobs, recorded a 33.71% decline and a 57.14% flat growth, respectively, while National Bank of Canada recorded a decline of 21.74% with 72 job postings during September 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 55.85%, down by 13.94% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 30.81% share, registered a decline of 16.14% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 10.61% share, up 18.26% over August 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 2.73%, recording a month-on-month decline of 43.55%.
