The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 11.09% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021. Out of the banking and payments industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 14.21% share in December 2021, recording a decrease of 0.47% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100.91% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s banking and payments industry in December 2021. 1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 56.97% in December 2021, registering a 30.19% decline over the previous month. 2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 17.57% share, a decrease of 28.94% over the previous month. 3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 11.14%, registering a 17.45% decline from November 2021. 4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 10.05%, down 20.71% over the previous month.

Top five banking and payments companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 18.87% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s banking and payments industry during December 2021 over November 2021. The Bank of Nova Scotia posted 327 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a drop of 0.61% over the previous month, followed by Royal Bank of Canada with 202 jobs and a 29.12% drop. National Bank of Canada with 67 IT jobs and Bank of Montreal with 65 jobs, recorded a 12.99% decline and a 20.73% decrease, respectively, while Desjardins Group recorded a decline of 54.17% with 44 job postings during December 2021.

Junior Level jobs held a share of 65.4%, down by 14.56% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 26.18% share, registered a decline of 41.38% compared with the previous month. In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 7.07% share, down 38.58% over November 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 1.36%, recording a month-on-month decline of 68.09%.
