National Information Services out of the top spot of this year’s
Fintech Top 100 list, recording some $4.4 billion in financial
services revenues in 2007. One notable highlight includes Tata
Consultancy Services’ rise up the chain; other big risers include
Cognizant and Experian.
This year’s ranking of the fintech industry’s 100 leading players
is lead by Fiserv. The company, an end-to-end business and
technology solution provider for retail financial organisations,
consumer finance institutions and credit unions, was ranked first
in 2006, 2005 and 2004 but last year was nudged out by Fidelity
National Information Services (FNIS).
The top five, however, remain the same as in 2006: Fiserv, FNIS,
SunGard, Diebold and NCR. This year Fiserv regained the top spot,
in part, it said in a statement, due to the acquisition of
CheckFree back in August 2007, the industry leader in online
banking, bill pay and presentment.
Fiserv, headquartered in the US state of Wisconsin, is the
leading provider of account processing solutions for US banks,
credit unions and thrifts and now boasts more than 6,000 clients
worldwide. One of the biggest deals the groups signed this year was
with the US insurance giant Mutual of Omaha.
In the second quarter, Omaha Financial Holdings, a new banking
division of insurance company Mutual of Omaha, selected the core
banking solution of Fiserv business unit, CBS Worldwide, to deliver
a full range of retail and commercial banking services to support
its expansion into retail banking.
Talking about regaining first place in the rankings, Fiserv CEO
Jeffery Yabuki said: “We have made many changes over the past year
to sharpen our focus on delivering best-in-class value to the
financial services industry.”
One of the biggest risers was India’s Tata Consultancy Services,
up four places to sixth and the highest ranked Indian IT firm. The
next best-placed Indian firm was Polaris Software, which, unranked
last year, appeared at 38th. Mphasis (39th), Firstsource Solutions
(54th), and iGate Global Solutions (65th) were other India-based
players on list.

By GlobalData“TCS is the only company consistently moving up the rankings by
demonstrating growth around the world,” said Jeanne Capachin,
research vice-president, global banking and insurance, at Financial
Insights, one of the compilers of the Fintech 100.
Other big risers included Cognizant, Experian, Oberthur Card
Systems and Temenos.
