Australian Banking giant Westpac has announced the launch of its new mobile app for Android users as digital banking gains popularity.

The new app is designed to allow customers to manage their money and comes with search and navigation tools, security and banking services.

The lender stated that following successful trials with over 20,000 customers, more than 800,000 Android 1+ customers will be upgraded to the new app over the coming weeks.

The launch comes after the bank launched an app for iPhone users earlier this year and claimed to have recorded a 15% increase in mobile-only digital banking.

Westpac chief executive consumer & business banking Chris de Bruin said: “Mobile has become the channel of choice for customers, with more than 84% of consumer and business digital banking taking place on a smartphone or tablet.

“Since first introducing the new app for iPhone, we’ve seen strong uptake with 700,000 daily users and more than 90,000 customers using our Smart Search feature each week.”

Westpac’s new app offers a wide range of features and is said to strengthen digital safety and security.

The app offers access to a digital version of a customer’s card that can be used for purchases. It comes with a dynamic CVC which is issued every 24 hours via the app.

It also features search options for banking services, transactions across multiple accounts along with ‘improved’ accessibility and a cards hub to consolidate cards in one place and lock them if lost or stolen.
