Lloyds Banking Group has reported a technology glitch at two of its seven computer servers that left debit card customers unable to access money from ATMs.

Lloyds said that debit card transactions were affected for three hours on 26 January, while Lloyds, TSB, Halifax and Bank of Scotland customers suffered problems for four and a half hours across 3,500 ATMs.

TSB said a quarter of its customers’ debit card transactions were affected after it suffered problems with two out of seven computer servers.

TSB CEO, Paul Pester, apologised customers facing problems with their cards and said he is working with his team to fix the problem.

Later in the day, the bank resolved the issue and confirmed that all the ATMs were running fine.

The latest glitch follows a similar technology problem at RBS that left around 750,000 customers unable to use their debit and credit cards in December 2013. Additionally in 2012, a major IT failure at RBS, NatWest and Ulster Bank did not allow customers to access their bank accounts.
