Total banking venture financing deals in Q4 2018 worth $920.09m were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 154% over the previous quarter and a rise of 128.9% when compared with the last four-quarter average, which stood at $405.31m.

Comparing deals activity in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $384.48m. At the country level, the United States topped the list in terms of deal value at $264.48m.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for banking venture financing deals globally, followed by Asia-Pacific and then Europe.

The top country in terms of venture financing deals activity in Q4 2018 was the United States with 27 deals, followed by India with 5 and the United Kingdom with 4.

The top five banking venture financing deals accounted for 53.7% of the overall value during Q4 2018.

The combined value of the top five banking venture financing deals stood at $493.7m, against the overall value of $920.09m recorded for the quarter.

The top announced banking venture financing deal tracked by GlobalData in Q4 2018 was Ant Financial Services Group, Dazheng Capital, Debon Securities, Sequoia Capital China Fund and Tengyi Industrial’s $143.7m venture financing of Kaijing Technology.

In second place was 1776 Ventures, Community Investment Management, Fresco Capital, Goal Structured Solutions, Gray Matters Capital, K Street Partners, Potencia Ventures, University Ventures Fund, VARIV Capital, Village Capital and Zephyr Management’s venture financing of MPOWER Financing for $110m and in third place was Tencent Holdings’ $90m venture financing of Nubank.

Altos Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Goodwater Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, KTB Network, PayPal Holdings, Qualcomm Ventures and Ribbit Capital’s $80m venture financing of Viva Republica and 8VC, Berggruen Holdings, CoVenture, Emergence Capital Partners, FJ Labs, Founders Fund, iNovia Capital, Portag3 Ventures, Precursor Ventures Management, Real Ventures, Social Capital and Western Technology Investment’s venture financing of Clearbanc for $70m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
