British lender TSB is set to introduce the iris recognition feature on its mobile banking app to ease the process of customer authentication.

Customers will be able to use the technology, which the bank claims is the first such implementation in Europe, to log in to their accounts from September 2017.

The feature can only be accessed by customers of the bank using a Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+ smartphone.

TSB chief information officer Carlos Abarca said: “We want our mobile app customers to continue to have a fast, easy-to-use experience; iris recognition delivers that and, when combined with our other security measures, an unparalleled level of cyber security.”

The latest move comes following the bank’s launch of its new mobile banking app in April 2017, which was built on its Proteo4UK IT banking platform.
