BNP Paribas (BNPP) has scooped the top honour at RBI’s annual industry awards: Global Retail Bank of the Year.
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) was named as 2012’s Global Retail Bank runner up. RBC also received the award for North American Retail Bank of the Year and Best Innovation in Customer Service.
Raiffeisen, Standard Bank SA, Al Hilal Bank, Santander, and DBS each won regional awards for retail banking excellence.
RBI received nominations from and on behalf of over 300 banks, up by 10% from the 2011 awards.
Cutting down the nominations to a shortlist of banks for each category brought out 50 separate banks shortlisted across the 21 Awards categories.
Douglas Blakey, editor of Retail Banker International, said: "We’re very happy that we had a record number of nominations this year and expect to do even better next year.
"Almost all of the entries had clearly been very carefully thought out with a great deal of time and effort going in to them.
"Selecting the final winner in a large number of the Awards categories was no easy task.
"BNPP was a worthy winner of the Award for leading retail bank in 2012, going from strength to strength in 2012 and recovering well from a challenging 2011."
