BBVA USA has said that it will shutter approximately 637 branch lobbies to limit the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

Effective today, most BBVA branches will offer services only through drive-through and will be completely shut on Saturdays until further notice.

Branches without drive-through or in close proximity to branches with active drive-throughs will be closed.

The bank added that 5% of branches will operate with limited lobby hours three days a week. These will be locations without a drive-thru and are located over 10 miles from the next closest BBVA location.

BBVA USA retail head Larry Franco said: “This measure, in addition to others taken by the bank in recent days, is one way it is fulfilling its responsibilities to customers, employees and communities in these unprecedented times.

“This strategy enables us to provide vital services in 94% of our branches, while working safely and responsibly.”
